All’s Well in the Kosmos

Kosmos, Fall/Winter 2009

I may have been writing squat on my blog recently, but at least others have been publishing my wheezes. My short (damn 450 word limt!) profile of CharityFocus appears in the Fall/Winter edition of Kosmos, a journal of waviness, crunchiness, and all things in between.

Here’s a PDF of the piece, for those of you who don’t already know the wonders of CF.

The money-quote of the essay is something I attributed to Nipun Mehta (with his complicity, if not actual oratory), which attempts to pull-together the amazingly diverse projects CF has undertaken over the years into a coherent mission statement and to place it in the context of the social change witnessed in the ten years (TEN YEARS!) since CF was born:

“We are seeing a very inspiring shift in social-mindedness and public compassion,” says CharityFocus founder Nipun Mehta. “Suddenly, ideas like service, selflessness, and philanthropy are cool. Our objective has always been to help create the tools that allow people to play joyfully in this space—to express their fundamental generosity, gratitude, hopefulness, and desire to be a more integrated part of the collective human experience.”

It was nice to have a chance to help spread the CF story.

At its most fun, memestream is a dialogue -- or, better, a cacophony -- rather than a library of overwrought essays reflecting a single point of view. For that, we need your two cents!

If you read anything on memestream that provokes an interesting thought, an emotion, a laugh, violent disagreement, passionate agreement, an anecdote, an uncontrollable non sequitur... be sure to leave a comment.

It will be no surprise to anyone who follows this blog that "all the best stuff" resides in the readers' comments. So don't stop reading when you hit the end of the essays. And add you voice to the discussion!
