Artisan Gelato in Vancouver

La Casa Gelato
In this world of studied mediocrity, where memes are reduced to common denominators and creativity is manacled by a commercial quest for popularity, it is always wonderful to find true excellence. And if excellence is the smoke, you can bet passion is the fire.

The passion of Vince Misceo is on display at his incomparable La Casa Gelato. With over 500 proven gelato recipes to his credit, Vince stocks no less than 208 flavors at any given time. Sure, you can get a scoop of chocolate, nocciola, strawberry, or vanilla. But you can also get lavender, plum and ginger, jackfruit, jalapeno, balsamico, cherimoya, wild mushroom, saffron and pignoli, or durian.

The variety and the ingenuity of the flavors make for notoriety; but it is the balance of compositions, the vivid freshness of the ingredients, and the consistently silky texture that distinguishes Vince’s work. It is a twenty-minute haul from our house on Spanish Banks to La Casa Gelato’s funky Strathcona location; and perfectly fine gelato can be had in a number of reputable shops in the neighboring ‘hood of Kitsalano. Yet we would never think of coming to Vancouver for the weekend without making the after-dinner pilgrimage to Vince’s.

True artistry should always be supported.
