Gandhi Rural Rehabilitation Centre, Alampoondi

In December, we spent a few days in the beautiful village of Alampoondi, in rural Tamil Nadu, visiting the Gandhi Rural Rehabilitation Centre. GRRC runs a variety of educational, medical, and livelihood programs for physically and mentally challenged adults and children in the villages near Alampoondi in central Tamil Nadu. They now have a shiny new web presence, thanks to volunteers at CharityFocus!

And if you are in the market for excellent handloomed cottons, consider buying from GRRC’s excellent artisans. I just had three great new kurtas made from their wonderful fabrics — you should too!

At the time the decision is made, normally life isn’t a walk in the park, and there are many other stressful things currently happening around them.
Today, there are a number of critics out there who claim that the AA model,
and specifically the 12 Steps, is outdated and no longer effective.
Researchers are encouraged to develop rigorous designs for research in the economics
of drug abuse treatment and prevention solutions.
In a boot camp for troubled teens, the personnel study the defiant or behavioral nature of the
teens, and try to get them back in the correct way of living.
Drug rehab sees to it that the patient recovers from his
dependence on alcohol and drugs by offering a wholesome and
secure surroundings to them, healthcare aid of seasoned medical professionals and enthusiasm to understand their self-really worth and obligations.
Our goal is to help each person who enters our doors walk the
road to a healthy, happy and sober life. For instance,
sleeping pill addiction will not be treated in the same way as crystal meth addiction. For parents who
fear that their son or daughter could wind up experimenting
with drugs and end up going down a path that leads
to a rehab center or worse, it helps to know that there
are programs in our public schools dedicated to educating our
children about the dangers of substance abuse. But the biggest
question is, where do you even start looking.
If you wish to start life over in positive ways drug rehab is your solution.

Blasts from the Past

... because the idiocy of manliness is an evergreen topic.

... because Canada and the US will celebrate their Thanksgiving holidays and, regrettably and preventably, not 1-cook-in-10 will serve a decent turkey.

... because everyday is Mother's Day.

... because the American Dream seems but a distant memory, given the country's dominant ethos of small-mindedness.

... to remind us that not every mix of Tibetans and Western spiritual seekers has to be nauseating.

... to celebrate the new edition of Infinite Vision published in India.

... reprised because military strategy seems more cruel and less effective than ever -- and certainly there is a better way.

... because cars are ruining Pondicherry, where I live. How badly are they fucking up your Indian town?

... reprinted because more-and-more people seem want to understand the gift economy. (Yeah!)
